Transformers

Posted on

Transformers are high-powered equipment used to regulate the power voltage of an alternating current. Transformers have evolved over the years with the change in technology. Transformers can either be standard and custom made. These days, the performance capabilities of transformers and end products are important to customers. This has prompted manufacturers to add special features to transformers to suit the customers. They are mostly used in power distribution substations, regulating voltage, a project like mining, refining functions and generating power.

Types of Transformers

Dry transformers

These transformers are made for underground and surface mining purposes. There are two types—flameproof dry-type and surface dry-type transformers. The flameproof types are suitable for underground mining, and they have a flameproof application. These transformers are reliable and low maintenance. They are commonly known as mining substations.

Specialist Transformers

They are designed for several uses, like rectiformers for traction, refining and smelting applications. They are portable and very efficient in cases of emergency. They are eco-friendly because they run on alternative and environmentally friendly fuel.

Power Transformers

These are mainly used by power networks to distribute power. They can also be used in office buildings, transport systems, processing plants, manufacturing facilities and for any activity that requires power. They can be customized to fit customer needs. This is the most popular type of transformer.

With transformers being used to regulate electricity, there are a few components that accompany them. For example, portable switch rooms are designed to protect electrical gear like switch gears, drives, batteries, transformers and even control and communication panels. They are cost effective because they can be moved to different locations, reducing the cost of building new switch rooms at every site. They can be used in a lot of project site,s like network substations, mines and infrastructure projects.

Switchgears are switching devices that enable the controlling and distribution of electricity produced by a transformer. Switchgears contain electrical disconnect switches, fuses or circuits that are meant to protect, control and isolate electrical equipment. High-quality switchgear is durable. Transformers also require skids. A skid is a processing system that allows easy transportation for the transport system.

A power substation is a combination of sensitive power equipment that regulates a high voltage of electricity for the consumers' needs. A substation can be used in homes, businesses, project sites or manufacturing plans.

All these types of electrical equipment are expensive. Manufacturing companies make the items, but they also have their own for hire. Hiring a transformer is suitable for one-time projects or people with financial constraints.
